Ra’s al Ghul is “ambiguous” says Siddig

By  |

Alexander Siddig gave his first interview about playing Ra’s al Ghul on FOX’s Gotham, telling Digital Spy that the weekly television format means he’s chosen to play the supervillain “in a more ambiguous way” than we might have expected

“I really tried to be as ambiguous as possible. I’ve only done two episodes and as an actor in episodic television, I don’t know what the next script is, so I’m confronted with finding a way to play something really dark in a more ambiguous way.”

He goes on to share a glimpse of the character as described in the script: “You’re really not sure if he’s good or bad – no-one knows whether he’s a demon or a saint, or a ghost, that’s a line from the script.”

Read more from Siddig about how much fun he’s having with the character and how he’s chosen to pronounce “Ra’s” – a topic of some debate, apparently – over at Digital Spy.

Gotham returns to FOX on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c. The series also airs on Channel 5 in the UK.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
