Mel – The official fansite for Alexander Siddig Fri, 02 Jun 2017 03:29:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 FIRST LOOK: Alexander Siddig as R’as al Ghul {VIDEO} Fri, 02 Jun 2017 03:29:59 +0000 It’s here! Our first look at Alexander Siddig as R’as al Ghul on Gotham, and he looks incredible! Watch this introduction video and meet me on the other side.

I don’t know a lot about the Bat’verse – the recent, mythology heavy movies are a bit on the grimdark side for me –
but I do know that R’as al Ghul is an ambiguous character who is both villain and mentor for Bruce Wayne. Looks like Sid is having fun playing with that ambiguity. Did anyone else get chills when he said that Ra’s wants to “get Bruce to cross a line that he should never cross”? Looking forward to his debut on Monday!

The two-part season finale of Gotham airs Monday, June 5 at 8/7c on FOX.

GOTHAM Season Finale Preview Teases R’as al Ghul Tue, 30 May 2017 16:43:29 +0000 Alexander Siddig’s big Gotham debut is next week in the two-part season finale, teased in the preview following last night’s episode. FOX is keeping Sid’s R’as al Ghul under wraps for the most part. The promo gives us just the teeniest glimpse, and we hear him at the end, but no clear shots. They’ve yet to release any photos of Sid in character, either, although they released a set of 30 promo photos for the finale. Building up to a big reveal?

Official synopsis:

With the deadly virus spreading throughout the city, the search for the antidote continues, as Fish Mooney (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), The Riddler and Penguin reveal plans of their own. Bruce meets Ra’s Al Ghul (guest star Alexander Siddig) and completes his last task in order to fulfill his destiny, but realizes he can’t let go of his past. Meanwhile, Gordon tries to win back Lee, and past alliances within Gotham City are broken, while new alliances are formed in the all-new, special two-hour “Heroes Rise: Destiny Calling/ Heroes Rise: Heavydirtysoul” season finale episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, June 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Ra’s al Ghul is “ambiguous” says Siddig Sat, 01 Apr 2017 07:00:48 +0000 Alexander Siddig gave his first interview about playing Ra’s al Ghul on FOX’s Gotham, telling Digital Spy that the weekly television format means he’s chosen to play the supervillain “in a more ambiguous way” than we might have expected

“I really tried to be as ambiguous as possible. I’ve only done two episodes and as an actor in episodic television, I don’t know what the next script is, so I’m confronted with finding a way to play something really dark in a more ambiguous way.”

He goes on to share a glimpse of the character as described in the script: “You’re really not sure if he’s good or bad – no-one knows whether he’s a demon or a saint, or a ghost, that’s a line from the script.”

Read more from Siddig about how much fun he’s having with the character and how he’s chosen to pronounce “Ra’s” – a topic of some debate, apparently – over at Digital Spy.

Gotham returns to FOX on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c. The series also airs on Channel 5 in the UK.

Alexander Siddig Voices “Alien: River of Pain” for Audible Fri, 31 Mar 2017 17:54:30 +0000 Audible announced this week that Alexander Siddig is starring in their new audio play Alien: River of Pain.

Based on the 2014 novel, Alien: River of Pain is set between the first and second films in the franchise and chronicles the birth and backstory of Aliens‘ Newt. The play explores the destruction of Hadley’s Hope, a research and mining colony in 2157.

Siddig plays “ruthless” Doctor Reese, as Siddig told Den of Geek: “I play a character called Dr. Reese, who’s one of a group of scientists sent to the far reaches of space to hopefully capture an alien alive – despite whatever human cost that incurs. So I’m not a particularly nice piece of work.”

Joining Siddig are Anna Friel, Philip Glenister, Michelle Ryan, Colin Salmon and Mark Warren all feature in River of Pain, from award-winning radio producer Dirk Maggs.

Alien: River of Pain will be released April 26, 2017. It’s available for pre-order now at Audible and Audible UK.

Alexander Siddig to Play Supervillain in GOTHAM Thu, 02 Mar 2017 18:54:13 +0000 The Internet has been fan-casting Alexander Siddig as Ra’s al Ghul for years, and someone finally listened. FOX  announced today that Sid will play the iconic DC supervillain this spring on FOX’s Gotham.

From the press release:

As Bruce (David Mazouz) lifts the veil off the COURT OF OWLS, he finds the man pulling the strings is the enigmatic and powerful RA’S AL GHUL (Siddig). With his past shrouded in mystery, Ra’s Al Ghul uses cunning deception to lay waste to his foes. As the leader of an international criminal organization known as the LEAGUE OF SHADOWS, Ra’s Al Ghul will prove himself to be Bruce’s most dangerous adversary yet.

I had the pleasure of interviewing several members of the Gotham cast and creative team at Comic Con last year – Sid should enjoy his time on set!

Sid Talks DS9, Peaky Blinders, GoT and More in New Interview Wed, 21 Sep 2016 18:39:51 +0000 posted a two-part interview with Alexander Siddig this week, discussing his time on Star Trek and attending conventions to reconnect with fans, as well as his roles in The Kennedys: After Camelot, Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones, and Recon (the FOX pilot that wasn’t picked up earlier this year). Sid also talks about celebrity in the ’90s vs now, as well as the new secrecy surrounding so many projects today.

If you’ve read/listened to interviews with Sid before, you know he can get quite philosophical and doesn’t have much of a censor when it comes to talking about what was happening behind the scenes. This time around, he’s opening up about what went down with his role on Game of Thrones:

Our prince did not meet a pleasant end…

He didn’t. It’s funny, I’m not really sure what happened there. I was contracted to do at least four episodes this season, but then I was in L.A. doing publicity for something else, and I got a call at the Chateau Marmont and there were familiar voices on the other end of the phone. It was one of those guys, and because they didn’t introduce themselves it was like, “Hi, it’s me.” I was like, “Is that David or Daniel?” Anyway, they said, “You know what this phone call is about.” I was like, “Yeah, well, I guess I do.” “So we were going to kill you off at the end of last season, but we decided that we’re going to have to kill you off at the beginning of next season.” I was like, “Okay, life goes on.” But there was something wrong about that because I had been contracted for four episodes in the following season, so if they were going to kill me off at the end of the last season why would they contract me for those four episodes? Because it costs them money whether I do them or not, so it’s not great business sense to do it just in case.

So something happened; I have no idea what. There was an enormous amount of fan excitement when I got named to be on the show, and everyone was like, “Oh my god, yes, Doran Martell. He’s going to be great as Doran Martell.” That might have been the kiss of death. Maybe they didn’t want quite that much attention on that character. Maybe they thought, “Well, let’s prove that we’re going to stray from the books. We’re going to do something else, and he will be our first example of that.” So maybe that could have been the case. Or maybe I just screwed up. Maybe I said the wrong thing to the wrong person.

You can read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
