HBO is showing "First Look: The Nativity Story." so check your local listings. You get two Sid sightings , first at the beginning when he is speaking to Mary and later when Mary is kneeling before him (he looks slightly transparent). I think there is a very brief glimpse of Sid when they are talking about the audition process.

And...The movie looks AWSOME!! It's not the old style Biblical movie where everyone has a beautific glow and the angelic choir in the background. It really shows the conflicts that Mary and Joseph went through. There is a lot of attention to detail: The actors 'lived' in the reproduction of Nazareth before filming began.

Can't wait!

Is there a chance to watch clips of it online?

I saw the trailer on TV last night while watching Cold Case! I saw Sid! It was a brief glimpse only, and the scenes went by pretty fast. Or maybe it just seemed so because I was shocked. LOL! It took me a few minutes to realize what I was watching. Hey, I was tired! blush.gif Anyway, it's exciting when you see trailers of movies you've been waiting so long for!

Dangit! I saw a trailer twice last night, but no Sid.

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the "First Look". I do want to see the movie so that I can offer some intelligent input. My tendency is not to trust reviews unless they are all unanimously terrible and even then you can get a pleasant surprise.

Some bad reviews don't worry me in the least. For example, if some critic tells me a movie is derivative, I figure I won't recognize the similar movie or won't care. On the other hand, if a film is praised for "pushing the envelope" I probably won't like it. Whether the envelope they're talking about is violence, language or explicit sex, I see no need to push it.

I saw the "first look" last night at around 2am here. Sid is shown twice briefly and he is slightly transparent, (rather dream-like looking.) I also noticed that his hair is curly, almost shirley temple style and looks lighter, as if the sun were shining through it. Wow, does he look tall!

xmas_rudolph.gif As for reviews, if it gets any bad reviews, then the reviewer probably isn't criticising it based on its own merit. This doesn't appear to be the kind of movie that you can compare to any other. It's a bit monochromatic, but that makes it more historically true. The director based the tale on the physical reality of the times and the actual characters involved. As for the actors, well I have to say it's definitely a brilliant cast. Based on HBO's "first look" alone, I'd say this is a movie that must be seen, even if Sid wasn't in it. (The minute of him is just a visual/auditory bonus.)

star.gif I must admit, I really wasn't planning to go see this movie in the theaters, but how hard they worked to put it together makes me want to go see it immediately. It looks even better than I had thought it would. I just have to see when I can get around to seeing it, this week is exam week and next I'll be working extra hours. Hopefully I'll find some time, (at least to regain some sanity. lol.gif )

December Entertainment Weekly gave it a terrible review. I just read it tonight. If you would like I will post it under reviews. The reviewer also said that Sid looked like Cat Stevens. I can't see that one at all. Cat Stevens?

I think that as fans of Sid, and in support of him, we should leave off the negative reviews.

Thanks for understanding, fangirl!

There are reviews on the Fandango site from those who have seen The Nativity (and even from people who haven't seen it). I wish Fandango wouldn't post comments from those who are just giving their opinions based on assumption! Those who object to the movie are mostly those who are not happy campers at this season. I guess there are just some who don't understand the place of stories within cultures. Pity! weather_snowing.gif

That was pretty much my thought and I wasn't planning to post it. In my experience the reviews from Entertainment Weekly are for the better part not positive. I did not find the reference to Cat Stevens very complimentary and I really don't know how Sid or anyone handles working in an industry where you have to endure critics. It was never my intent to appear unsupportive as I was just presenting the information.
The post gets ahead of the brain at times.
