I just saw this movie and I thought he was wonderful in it. I thought I read that this was his first film role, is that correct? Does anyone know?
Mel
Big Battalions was Sid's first major role; he'd done a few bit parts on kids' shows prior to that. Big Battalions led to A Dangerous Man, and A Dangerous Man led to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. And the rest is history. biggrin.gif

I could be wrong about this, but I believe A Dangerous Man was shown on British TV before the miniseries Big Battalions. I recall Sid being asked about his "first role" at a fan club event and he stumbled a bit with his answer. "The first one I did or the first one people saw?"

I think you are right Carol. ADM was 1990 and TBB 1992, what I am confused regarding ADM is that I am not sure if it was shown nationally or regionally (due to the way that station was/is structered) at that time.

Yes this is all correct. Sid tells the story about going for the audtion for BB and it being just him and one other Arab looking guy who was a cab driver or something. :-) It was after BB that he was cast for ADM but ADM aired first.

For ADM he had a bit more competition for the audition but he still nailed it.

Oh Oh.... perhaps I'm making a big mistake.....but did Sid do a role in a tv serie before big battalions?

I thought his first role was in Samy and Rosie get laid (did I write it correct?)? It was just a small role.

Technically Sid's first on-screen role was as a young King Tut in a documentary. I believe he was 11 at the time (?). He did have a teeny cameo role in Sammy and Rosie Get Laid, but Big Battalions and A Dangerous Man are his first "big" roles.

ELEVEN?!?!

I wonder if I saw this King Tut special? If he was 11 then I was 9, was that when King Tut was going around the world? Well he's been around for a while hasn't he. <--haha Sid not Tut!!

Thanks everyone for your answers.

I don't think you can call it a "cameo" if you're an unknown. If Sid did a tiny bit in a movie NOW, it would be a cameo. In Sammy and Rosie Get Laid Sid is a party guest. Sid was not an actor at the time but was acquainted with the casting director who was looking for an ethnic mix of young people. It's surprising he actually got a screen credit for that appearance.
