I did finally get CNN to open this up for me -- ironically the clip is sponsored by a gas-guzzling Buick -- and got to watch it in spite of my Internet provider doing its best to stop me. I don't know why the CNN web site sets off all the Spam alarms at Earthlink, but it does.

It's a brief appearance, but it's so good to see Sid out doing promotion for a film. Yeah!

I'm sorry. I can't find it either. I wanted to watch it again, but it appears to be gone. I'm not very familiar with CNN's web site, but it looked different on Sunday than it did on Saturday.

It is stilll there.

Go to the CNN homepage (CNN.com)

Click on the Entertainment section that is on the left in the navy blue section.

Then click on Browse/Search in the green watch free video box, you then get a small box containing a list of clips and Syriana is about half way down.

I can download and play it just fine, Chas. Maybe it just doesn't want to work on a Mac.

But it's the same here. It's only 275 bytes and it tells me it's just a "playing list".
It works as a streaming link, I think.

Typical that M$ should use a non-standard protocol for streaming video. I looked at the file with a text editor and all I could see was '<asx version = "3.0">' but there was clearly other data in the file that wasn't visible. I then cracked the file open with a resource editor (let's really see what's in here) and lo and behold, I find this:



Aha! Feed this URL into QuickTime and voilà - thar she blows!! Of course, it's a WMV file and QT doesn't play WMV files natively - unless you have the right plugin, which most people won't have. So I export the file to another format which QT will read natively - job done

For those people who either can't read the original, or who wish to keep this file in their collection, can right-click/SaveAs on the link below.

Actually I made some more.
But I think they are not so good quality because I had to convert the mov into a mpeg file. For some reason there seems to be a loss in quality.
