It was sad to see Sid in such a meagre role. But now he has parts that allow him to shine! Keep up the great work, Sid! towel.gif

It was sad to see Sid in such a meagre role.

It was a role which kept him close to home at a time when he needed to be there. Sid's mother died on February 10, 2001 after a long illness. Sid could be there because Reign of Fire was close to home and his shooting schedule was flexible. Sometimes the size of the role isn't the most important consideration.

I didn't know that about his mom. *sad now*

It seems he fluctuates with his roles. Sometimes they are big, sometimes they are small. But they are always Sidlicious!

And sometimes (as in Vertical Limit) the role becomes MUCH smaller when the director decides Sid is so effective when he doesn't say anything but just lets his eyes convey what he's feeling that he keeps cutting his lines! Six months work on the other side of the world and exactly six lines of Sid's dialogue made it into the final film!

At least Reign of Fire wasn't a disappointment. It was what it was and Sid knew that going in.

Another thing about Reign of Fire that you might like to know is that Gerard Butler learned he'd been cast as the lead in Timeline during the making of that movie and he and Sid went out drinking together to celebrate. I like to think Sid found a friend and kindred spirit on the set of that movie.

I watched the film today from DVD. It was an impressive cast. Even though none of them were able to be choosy in those days. And I have a weak spot for this sort of film anyway. In a way it was Dragonheart gone Mad Max. I liked Ajay. And the character made it through more than half of the film.

The best part is when Malcolm is nagging Nazir about his prayers "This Allah, He's not gonna strike you down if you miss one prayer" Then Sid just looks at the nitro, then at Malcolm who immediately gets the message!

I am so looking forward to watching more and different pieces of Sid's work. Thank you for the hint Charmedgirl! So far I only know most of DS9, Kingdom of Heavens and Reign of Fire.

Hi, Magenta!

Don't forget to look for "A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia." It's one of Sid's earliest works. It's how he got tapped for DS9. He has a co-star role with lots and lots of screen time. He's wonderful in it (of course!) and just amazingly cute, too. But isn't he always?

Remember his face when Gertude told the British that he understood English perfectly? Poor Sid was SO Busted!

I ordered my copy last week, along with The Next Doctor starring David Tennant. They should arrive this week, I hope. I'm ashamed to say I've never seen A Dangerous Man. Yes, shocking, isn't it? I should be punished for that. wink.gif

As for Reign Of Fire. Don't get me started. By the time Sid's character became barbeque, I was cheering for the dragon. Before anyone decides to draw and quarter me, I'd better explain it had nothing to do with Sid!
