According to
A&E's website,
Poirot: Cards on the Table is schedule to air in the U.S. Sunday, December 11 @ 1PM Eastern! Thanks to
Tammy for the head's up; we weren't expecting to see it here until Spring 2006. Here's the write-up from A&E:
Agatha Christie's Poirot
Cards on the Table.
Tune In:
Sunday, December 11 @ 1pm ET/PT
One of London's richest and most mysterious men, Mr. Shaitana, invites Poirot, the crime writer Ariadne Oliver, two of Poirot's fellow sleuths, and several other to his sumptuous apartment for dinner and bridge. But the evening takes a deadly turn when the host is found stabbed through the heart and the four sleuths must find the killer in the crowd. David Suchet stars with Zoë Wanamaker, Alexander Siddig, David Westhead, and Robert Pugh.
That's going to be a terrific Sid weekend what with
Syriana also opening wide on December 9.

I should be able to take some screen captures and put them in the January issue! That's almost an embarrassment of riches! We've got the Syriana premiere, the reviews, new production photos. Wow! Is this a good time to be an editor or what!

Yay!

Two of my favorite people in the same show! I'm giddy! By the way, since this is a first run on A&E, they will most likely rerun the show a couple of times during the week, if any of you cannot catch this that day.

HEY!!! That's before we in the UK have seen it.

I think we UK members need to have a word with the schedulars.
I'm as surprised as you are, Marie. ITV had told me it would air in the UK first, but apparently not. However, I am hearing rumors that it might air December 31 on ITV4. As soon as I can get a confirmation on that, I'll let our UKers know.

Perhaps you could buy it from amazon or barnes and noble? They sell Poirot DVDs I believe.

Yes, I'm pretty sure amazon will have it. They have the other Poirots.
And the best is that the german amazon will probably have it as an import, too.

(expensive, but they'll have it)
(I really don't know how amazon chooses the items they offer. Some dvds/cds you can get as an import and some not. Let's hope they continue liking Poirot.)

Okay, now I'm hearing New Year's Day on ITV1, but I can't find anything on ITV's website to either confirm or deny. Jude, Marie, or another UKer, can you see if you can track down this information? I assume you have Super Seekrit Deduction Skills since everyone knows that all UKers are secret agents.

You should get up just in time to miss the show! It's 1:00 p.m. EASTERN. I figure that makes it noon CENTRAL time. I'm planning to be home from church and have a videotape ready to go by noon.

I've made arrangements to commandeer our neighbors TV just to see the movie. (We don't have TV reception/cable---not because of the cost, but simply we find TV just too addicting!) But fortunately our kind neighbors like Piorot, too. Let's hope there isn't some sports event that they'll have to forgo on my account.

I'm working at the bookstore until 2PM Central today, but I have the VCR set to record the show. I'm looking forward to going home and sitting down with a cup of tea to watch this.

I just saw the first fifteen minutes of it and Sid is utterly
perfect for the part of Mr. Shaitana. He seems so.....evil....
I won't get into too much detail but I'm really enjoying this so far!
BTW, Sid looks great (more so than usual!). He's got this really nice suit thing going on, and he looks positively RICH!
Go Sid!

I tried to post a couple captures here and got an error message. Sigh. I'll go with only one and e-mail the rest to Mel for the gallery.
I can't believe the wardrobe Sid had for this! He was in two different outfits before the opening credits were done and every time they did a flashback of him talking to one of the suspects, he was wearing a new outfit!
Loved Sid in this -- even if the murder mystery was less than convincing. He's in the whole show from beginning to end because we see him in flashbacks. It was a great role.

I just hope that this film will be available at the german amazon, too.
It´s a shame that so many films are just been shown in UK or US. I never saw a Poirot film in Germany.

I never saw a poirot film in Germany.
They are shown on Japanese TV every now and then.
Sid's costumes were exquisite! And the acting was so believeable. He really came across so . . . slimey. How does he do it? Now
that is talent---to be able to play a role that is so different from your own personality and to do it so convincingly. Good job, Sid, good job!

I agree, I think he came across deep down dark. Though, maybe I'm biased, but I still sense an urge from his character to...............to help! I can't help it, I sensed he wanted to help as well. Is it me, or how he portrays his characters?
I found it interesting to see Zoe Wannamaker in this. I became interested in the actress, after seeing her in the first Harry Potter movie. I loved her character.
By the way, am I the only person who found Shaitana's double head and hands only portrait a bit......creepy?

I wasn't expecting to see quite so many flashbacks, either. Man, he did have fun with this one, didn't he? I know it's murder and all, but I was nearly cracking up watching him be a ham.

I'll get the screencaps posted shortly. Thanks, TOC!

David Suchet, in my opinion, is the only one who has ever played the charactor even remotely close to the way Christie wrote him in her books. When he stops doing it, he will be a very tough act to follow, because I cannot think of anyone else who could fill those shoes. He's played Poirot since the late '80's. Suchet has been seen in many other movies as well and he is very, very good. To name a few:
A Perfect Murder, The In-Laws, Harry and the Hendersons, The Falcon and the Snowman, Greystoke: The Legand of Tarzan, just to name a few. Interestingly enough, his first appearance in an Agatha Christie mystery was not as Poirot, but as Chief Inspector Japp!

I Missed it!
Anyone catch the significance of Sid's name? Shaitana? Shaitan is an Arabic word for the devil, I think. Please tell me it will be rerun.

I wasn't saying he was a bad actor...I just found his appearance kind of scary and startling.

It sounded like his normal speech to me, maybe just a smidge more refined. Definitely upper-class English, though.
Syriana is the same. Well, except when he speaks in Arabic.

I thought it sounded like his normal accent. I remember thinking how rare it must have been for him to use it. I could be wrong, but it was so nice to hear!

Yes he did Sancha, but for the life of me I cannot remember which movie that was. It may have been AFO, but I can't remember seeing him in that one. It's driving me crazy! He played a bad guy.
