I have seen Peter Jackson's King Kong and it is goooood!

I managed to get passes to a preview screening. It Is Incredible! The story is more like the original than the '76 remake. The effects are incredible. Kong is just an amazing beast. Jackson recreates New York of the time like he filmed here and redressed the city. I don't know how much is New Zealand and how much is CGI, but the scenery is gorgous.

Go See It when it's officially out.

I'm looking forward to it. I saw the preview when we went to see Harry Potter and it really does look like it's extremely well done and very impressive.

It is incredible! The movie is 3 hours long and it does not feel like 3 hours.

It is getting tremendous reviews. To the point that the Oscar prognosticators are hastily changing their Best Picture and Best Actress predictions.

Big, yes. Ugly, no. Jackson definately portrays Kong with a soul and not as a dumb beast. Kong evolves over th course of the movie. Yeah, he fights T. Rexs and humans, but he is defending himself and what he views as his female.

It's still a monkey and even Peter Jackson cannot make it look appealing enough for me. Trust me, I'd be the one in the crowd cheering when the thing is shot down. That's how much I dislike monkeys. I also saw huge, ginormous bugs in those trailors.

Have fun y'all!

The reviews are coming in and they are RAVES. Like, raves to the point that suddenly the awards prognosticators are rethinking their predictions. King Kong is now a front-runner for Best Picture, Best Director (EW called Jackson the best director working today wub.gif), Best Actress (Naomi Watts), and of course all of the technical awards. And many who have seen it - fans and critics alike - are already jonesing for a repeat viewing. Looks like we have another LOTR on our hands, folks.

I'm not sure about it. I thought it was good/sad/disgusting and preferred it to the earlier versions but I personally thought the film was let down by some of the acting. Jack Black should stick to comedy (not that he does that well either) and Naomi Watts seemed to rely too much on the doe-eyed teary look. Andy Serkis and Adrien Brody were good as usual though. The special effects are amazing as well - they should definitely win an oscar imho!

Saw this on Saturday with Mom and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I've tried to watch the original a handful of times and just couldn't get into it. Supposedly it's one of the "great films", but...meh. However, this one was a Peter Jackson film, so I had to give it a shot.

Naomi Watts made a fine Ann Darrow - a fighter but vulnerable. I liked that interpretation of the character a lot more than Fay Wray's. Jack Black was fine. Nothing exceptional about his portrayal. Adrien Brody was perfect as the not-quite-smooth Jack. Grown-up Jamie Bell was fine in a small role. But Andy Serkis...the man and the animation guys are geniuses. I'm fairly neutral on the subject of apes, gorillas, monkeys in general, but I was able to connect with Kong. I could understand why Ann became so fond of him and I did cry a little at his fate. Mom bawled. smile.gif

Note for mrsjack: I actually turned to Mom at one point and said, "Remind me to tell Liz that she does NOT want to see this movie." The bugs, hon. They were even starting to get to me. ::shudder::

I could not believe the reviewer Neil Rosen. He bashed King Kong, saying stuff like Jackson left out the destruction of the L train as was in the original one. And that it wasn't as campy. The only good thing was the special effects. He said it was too serious.

C'Mon! That movie was really good. It was long but It didn't feel like it. I thought Jack Black, Naiomi Watts and Adrien Brody did an excellent job.

Those incects were GROSS!

Yeah, my husband saw it over the weekend and really loved it but he did tell me about the bugs and other things that I couldn't take. Most particularly, and in case you didn't know it already, THE BIG UGLY MONKEY!!! lol.gif
Mel
The ape is pretty loveable, really. I was so impressed with Andy Serkis and the team of animators. But the bugs...man, they were starting to get to me and I normally don't have a problem with bugs.

I haven't seen it yet (that'll change by tonight) but all I can say is....I heart Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis, so odd are that I'll love it and go to see it many times just to show my support. Most people I've spoken with either love it or hate it. Doesn't appear to be much middle ground.

I saw it Friday, December 30th.

I can't imagine hating it. If they go to movie named King Kong, what exactly were they expecting?

On the other hand, I won't need to see it a second time. I never dreamed I could become bored watching stampeding dinosaurs. This is not a sight one sees every day! But it did seem to go on and on until I couldn't figure out how any of the men were still alive. How did they manage to avoid being trampled again and again?

I did have one question about the playwright. Wasn't he supposed to be an American? He says on the ship that he's "spoiled for choice" which I consider a British expression. Does anyone know if that's something an American might have said in the 1930's?
