I looked on Amazon.com for DVDs of DS9. The entire set---all episodes from the beginning of the series to the end, Seasons 1 thru 7---is $636.99. The individual Seasons cost $116. Yikes. It costs an oil baron's ransom to buy them. dry.gif Oh well, I guess some people can afford it. It's certainly not something I'm buying for Christmas, though. cracker.gif
Mel
You can often find them cheaper on eBay, but, yeah, I'd rather pay my heating bill this winter. lol.gif

The price on amazon.de is now 59,97 Euro for one season. That would make the entire set cost 420 Euro.
That's almost the same in dollar. And there is english audio on the dvds.
But I guess if you order them via amazon.de you will have to pay way to much for shipping costs and taxes and other stuff.
But I was surprised. I was waiting for the prize to fall for months. But it's still to much for me - horses want food. tongue.gif

WOW! I guess I won't be having THAT collection.

There's always the VCR and Spike TV!

Just buy one season at a time. It's more do-able that way even if you end up paying slightly more by the time you're done..That's how I did it and now have all 7 seasons. I never could have bought all 7 seasons at the same time..Way too much money. What really aggravates me is how much more cheaper other shows' season sets are.. dry.gif

Dear Space Tigger, Can you please tell me, how much extra stuff (like interviews, etc.), is on the DVD sets?Specifically, is there a lot of extras for someone who is almost exclusively a Sid fan where DS9 is concerned? I need to know if I should just keep on recording to DVD as I just started to do off of SPIKE or would it actually be worth my while to buy the sets? Thanks, Just Annie

Hey Annie..There are a lot of extras, interviews, commentaries and such on these DVDs..But I'm afraid you'll be disappointed in the lack of Sid.. I believe Sid extras were far and few between on these DVDs. I'm having a hard time remembering any but it's been quite a while since I watched the 'extras'..

I still feel it's worth it to buy these DVD sets. But that's probably easy for me to say since I already have them.. blink.gif
ulli
I only have the season 6 box. (it cost more money than our 15 year-old tv set is worth by now wink.gif ) And I must say I was a bit disappointed because for that much money I expected more extra stuff. Anyway, on that box is an interview with Sid. They do some kind of character study on every box and on no.6 it is about Bashir.
Since I have not the possibility to record dvds on my own and the quality of my self recorded videos becomes worse day by day I still think it's good to have at least one season on dvd.

What really aggravates me is how much more cheaper other shows' season sets are..

Well, "ER" is really cheap compared to the Star Trek boxes. (and you have to wait only a few months and not years until you can have it for half the money) But after season 3 they didn't put on any extras at all (at least there are no extras on the german versions). But it's still worth buying.

I just ordered the 5th season at amazon.de this Monday and got it on Friday. I know the DVD´s are expensive but in the box I got there´s the last DVD from the 3rd season included.
I bought the box because Deep Space Nine isn´t sended at the moment on the German television. Just SciFi is sending Deep Space Nine but just the first three seasons (I think they have just the rights for this ones because they repeat the seasons for the third time) and this ones I have already recordet on DVD whistling.gif .
The box is cool. I can watch DSN in German, English, French ...

And what says E-bay??? I think there should be some guys who want to sell their boxes.

lol.gif I did watch it in french one time. (Inquisition) I was preparing for a french exam.
First it was funny. Then it became exhausting. So I watched it with french subtitles to make it easier. Then I watched it in french with german subtitles which was very confusing. Then I gave up.
Anyway, it was interesting.

But having the opportunity to watch these shows (and movies) in english original is one reason why I buy dvds. Videos usually don't offer more than one language.

Being 16 years old, without a part time job or anything, this is an extremely irritating phenomenon. Luckily, they were on sale this christmas. Not $200 dollars anymore, $70! I made my Mum by me Season 1 and 2 for christmas ( I got them, and some books. E tutto.) Fantastic. I do have videos from season 7 (Can you say What You Leave Behind opening sequence and Dogs of War Turbolift sequence?!)

It's unfortunate they're so expensive. Ma, c'est la vie. C'e la vita!
Naddel
I hated to be 16. No job. No money.
Now I´m 18 and I´ve got a good paid job. The Most of my salary I have to spent for the car (insurance, gas, taxes ...) so I have to save money for about a few months to buy such a DSN box.
Lexx
Yeah, They sure are expensive. Watching DS9 with subtitles is just hilarious. I learnt how to swear in Norwegian by watching the Matrix with subtitles. And hearing dubbed voice actors matching other people's mouths! It's fun indeed!

Teehee: Just used the Spell Check! Perfetto!

I watched a episode in French last week and it was sooo funny. I didn´t understand a word but it was really hard to understand the word they were talking about because they were speaking soo fast blink.gif .

Another reason for me to buy the DVD box was that the German TV-Channels short the episodes to show more commercial. I hate that. mad.gif Sometimes I missed 10 minutes of the normal episode.
Lexx
I can rent discs from my Video store. I borrowed 10 today for $11. ^^ And I can make Screenshots.

So, to make the week go quicker, I watch the eps over and over, picking out minute details and changing languages. When Voyager was on TV, it was on Thursdays (school night) at MIDNIGHT!

*sigh* The world plots against me.

I looked at Amazon again at the entire set and the price has gone up, can you believe it? dry.gif Then a thought hit me . . . doh.gif and I went to eBay. detective.gif Although they're not that much of a discount, and you might be taking a chance on the quality, still it's one way of getting hold of them at a reasonable cost. Thank heavens. notworthy.gif

Yes you´re right. Here in Germany they rise prices, too. I wanted to buy the six season and was shocked about the new price. I have to wait until the end of this month. Hope that I´ll have enough money left.
Marie
Naddel, you should check out play.com. They have all the DS9 DVDs at 60% off. That's 59.49 eur with free delivery.

Here's a link to the site. You need to click the euro symbol by the shopping basket to change the prices.

Naddel,

I don't know about Germany, but in the US one can use their bank card (debit card) online. I do all the time. It's put out by VISA so maybe that's why we don't have any problem. Even in Japan we did the same thing. We had a VISA debit card given to us through our bank in Japan. And no problem.

Best of Luck! 2thumbs.gif
Naddel
Okay I checked my card again. I think it will work with it.
I try it at the end of this month.

Thank you to all.

I know this thread is OLD, but the DS9 series is on Amazon for $300. It came fast and all the dvds are in great condition.

Had a bad experience with the Voyager series i got. About half the disks were rotted, but i guess that's what you get for buying them from a seller.

Actually there is quite a history with not-working, damaged or even splinted Star Trek dvds. It's usually because of the dvd holders. It's so tight you can't get the dvd out without destroying it. Amazon usually will send you a new copy. I don't know about the sellers. Have you tried to contact him/her/the shop?

I always wanted a complete collection of at least DS9. But I started with the hardcover boxes and now they only have those ugly paper-folders.

Ulli
Mandolyn84
Actually i did. Amazon is great about that kind of thing. The seller did an exchange and i managed to get my hands on a different (and not so rotted) copy.

Yeah, they do pack those dvds tight! That's why i take them out and put them all into their own cases. That way they don't get scratched or break into a million little pieces when you take them out of the box. In the States, the only time i've seen dvds packed in paper folders is with Netflix. Is it common place to buy cds like that where you are?
ulli
Oh, maybe "paper-folder" was the wrong term. It's more like "paper-boxes". But the really annoying thing here is that they split almost every season of a show in two parts. So, you have to buy two boxes. It just doesn't look nice on a shelve. wink.gif
