Full Version: Let the Oscar Talk Begin!
I've been keeping an eye on David Poland's Oscar predictions page for awhile now, and waiting for him to get a good look at Syriana. Finally, in his latest update, Sid appears in his possible Best Support Actor lineup: 20 Weeks to Oscar.
I love how he mentions 'the Great KOH performer'. Finally! Someone else notices!
Yay, good for you Sid! Even if he doesn't get the award (and that's a big if!) it's great that he's been up for a nomination anyway. Here's the pre-award applause - 
What is of note is that it looks like a very strong year for male roles. Simply being mentioned in this company is a major feather in Sid's cap.
Looks like the hard work is paying off big time.

Even if it is only speculation so far, it's very good that people start noticing him.
I just hope I'll be able to watch the movie before the nomination list comes out.

Poland has updated his award predictions list again (he does so weekly), and Sid is still holding a pretty good spot on the list:

If he thinks Sid's name is 'getting mentioned in-house a lot' now, wait till his other three projects get out there, particularly Hannibal.
In further Oscar news, it appears that Warner Bros. has decided to push Syriana in the Best ADAPTED Screenplay category instead of ORIGINAL as was being bandied about over the past month. It's considered an almost guaranteed nominee in the ADAPTED category.
I just posted a reply, read it, then deleted it.

Another Oscar list, another mention of Sid. 
The Backstage has published its current Oscar predictions, with Sid landing in their "Tier II" list for Best Supporting actor:
You'll notice that Matt Damon, Christopher Plummer, Chris Cooper and Jeffrey Wright are all also on this list. With press/critics screenings just about to begin for Syriana, we should start to see a clearer focus on which of this obviously amazing supporting cast is going to be the breakout star a la Benicio del Toro in Traffic. My money, of course, is on Sid.

We knew Sid had it in him!
David Poland's latest predictions are posted and Sid is still considered on the "short list" for a possible nomination. However, the fact that Warner Bros. hasn't screened the film for critics/press yet is starting to be seen as a sign of lack of confidence in the film. Ah, the roller coaster ride that is awards season.
David Poland's new column is up and reflects the shift in the award prognosticators focus: the trailer for Munich was released this week and instantly pushed the film to the front of the pack. And yet, in the middle of all of the "Munich is practically a shoo-in for Best Picture" talk, he makes this statement:

He's questioning whether Sid as Prince Nasir will be a strong enough presence in the film to be a real contender. Remember, very few people have actually seen the movie yet. We have another few days before the screenings begin in earnest, so all of this speculation is really just that: speculation. But the fact that he's getting such buzz from an as-yet-largely-unseen performance is promising.
Oh..I wish he'll be nominated for the oscar!!!!!!!!
