Michael Ausiello at
TVGuide.com confirms that Sid has joined the cast of Fox's hit drama,
24. According to Ausiello, "former
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine doc Alexander Siddig is joining the cast as one of the evil-doers behind the big Season 6 plot."
24's sixth season premieres on Fox television in January 2007.

Damn...
Now I have to watch that show.
Just a question: how is the show be shown in the United States?
If I remember right, here in Germany they show at least 3 episodes at once on several days a week.
I mean when they are showing the newest season.
Thats to much at once in my opinion.
It airs here once a week, on Monday nights. The new season will premiere in January and run straight through to the finale in May with no reruns.

I am hoping to buy the DVD release of the show eventually so I hope Sid's role is pretty meaty.
Am I right in assuming that 24 is only broadcast on Sky One in the UK???

Congratulations Sid

Well, the part of the hero is already cast. That's the thing about being a guest star in an established series. Fortunately, it will give a million or so people a chance to get to know Sid who didn't know him before. It should be excellent exposure for him.

Oh cool!
A lot of my friends watch that show and always tried to get me to watch it but I never could because Mondays were always the busiest day of the week for me with school work and flute lessons.
But, I'm no longer taking flute lessons so I'll be able to watch 24 while doing my homework!
Awesome!
Yay Sid!

And it's 24. For all I've heard of the show, it must be a good role.

I agree, I also think it will be great exposer, in my opinion, mostly so on "24". It will also show his range of acting talents in playing someone bad, as opposed to his roles that were, "Honorable". anyway, I think it will give me a tingly feeling seeing him play someone different I guess, but I will have to adabt!

So far the '24' news has been picked up by
Cinescape,
SciFi Heaven,
ComingSoon.net, and
Dark Horizons. Most of these sites have comments enabled and the majority of the comments are good. It's fun to see so many Sid fans are out there; a lot of them are referencing him in
Syriana, too, which is very cool.

You're right about the show being broadcast only on Sky here. The good news is that the UK version of series 5 of 24 is out in November so hopefully series 6 will be released the same time next year.
I like the fact they say that Sid will play an "evil doer". From what I remember of the 1st series (the only one I've seen), this could mean a Baddie that they're chasing, or it could mean he is to play an "insider". Some one who is suppose to be on the side of the Goodies but is helping the baddies or has their own agenda.

YourTV.co.au has a small announcement about Sid's appearance as well:
Actors return to 24
Much of 24's core cast was killed off in season five but several familiar faces will still return for the drama's upcoming sixth season, TV Guide's industry insider Michael Ausiello has learned.
Eric Balfour will reprise his role as computer whiz Milo Pressman, a character who last appeared on the Emmy Award-winning series in season one. Balfour has signed on a series regular, meaning his character could play a large part in the action.
Carlo Rota will also return in season six. His character Morris, the charming ex-husband of 24 favourite Chloe O'Brien (Mary Lynn Rajskub), was introduced at the tail end of the last season.
Former Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actor Alexander Siddig will reportedly join the cast an "evildoer" in the sixth season, which debuts in the US in January.

I guess it will take a while until we get the 6th season here in Germany.
As far as I remember the last season shown was the 4th. So the 5th is still left.
Maybe it´s easier (or earlier) to buy the DVDs.

Maybe ... but I think the DVDs will be just in English with no subtitles.
But so far as I know will the 5th season shown on 'Premiere', soon.
Premiere now shows the 'interesting' series earlier than the normal TV channels like RTL 2.
Lets wait and see what will happen.

Hi all
Just finished watching the last of Season 5 of 24 myself.
Here in Oz, Channel 7 showed it as 2 hour episodes, twice a week so it was all over and done with in 6 weeks.
I missed out on watching Series 3. Couldn't get into it but really enjoyed the others I have watched.
It will be good to see Sid in the show, but going on past series there is no guarantee that it will be a long role - 24 has a high mortality rate and it doesn't seem to matter if you are a goodie or a baddie!

Wow
First of all let me say Congrats to Sid. This is awesome news. With 24's reputation, this bodes well for them both. Quality begets quality.
I am infinitely grateful that he is so busy.
Secondly, this is very ironic personally. On a trip to see a friend in Canada, I teased Friend #1 and Friend #2 as they watched 5 episodes of 24 while I surfed the net reading Sci-Fi fic (Stargate, DS9). This was after they pooh poohed my request to go visit the SG set and had consistently resisted my efforts to expand their tastes to all things Sid-DS9, KoH etc.
I never would have guessed our tv fandoms would have collided like this. It's worth the ribbing I'll receive with my "new found" interest in 24 because I *know* Sid will win them over.

Possible new information about Sid's role: The
Wikipedia page [caution: spoilers abound on that page!] for Season 6 is reporting that Sid's character is named Hamri Al-Assad, although the cited source is just the TV Guide scoop saying Sid has joined the cast. Another site claims Hamri Al-Assad is the "main villian" but I have not yet found the source for that information. So, some possible clues about his role, but nothing confirmed just yet.

We in Germany are waiting for the 5th season. But I think we have to wait one or two years to see the 6th season of 24 as well.
Is someone able to tell me why they need so much time to show the series in other countries? I don't belive that the only reason is because the episodes must be translated.

They need to buy the licenses first. I think usually they don't do it while the first season runs (because they want to see how the show is doing before they spend any money on it). This means, at that moment we are already one year behind. Then it needs to be dubbed. And they won't show two seasons back-to-back. Because there needs to be some "exitement" while waiting for the next season. I read somewhere that they'll show season 5 early next year, so I don't think we have to wait that long.

I know what you mean. I hate it to wait half a year or longer to see the next season of Emergency Room or other series I love. (This year Prosieben showed two seasons back-to-back for the first time.)

Naddel here in Italy the televisions are very bad with tv series.
On the free TV we have a lot of trash (reality show 5/6 days a week, talk show, italian fiction) and tv series are on air only in the holes of their programs ( except the teen series).
Sometimes they forget episodes, or they play episodes in a wrong order (i.e. House MD).
Only pay tv guarantee for tv series.
And this is the first time that 24 is played on the pay tv.
The same treatment is reserved to movies.

Well, You are right.
RTL2 is showing the 5th season in January 2007
http://www.serienjunkies.de/news/staffel5-rtl2-13989.htmlI will see if I can watch that one, so hopefully I will understand the 6th season better when it aires here.
A longtime fan of 24 told me today that, for the novice, watching season 4 would be the best way to prep for the upcoming season 6. Something about the Chinese storyline?

Hi Mel
Watching Season 4 will help explain the Chinese connection but you will need to watch Season 5 to continue the connection. Then, if you enjoy it as much as the rest of us 24 fans, then you'll probably want to watch the rest of the series.

I know this is not really
new news, but I liked what the writer says about Sid.
QUOTE
Alexander Siddig, an accomplished actor born in Sudan, will be appearing on season 6 of 24, according to TV Squad. Siddig will play a character named Hamir Al-Assad. Do you think he might be playing a terrorist? With that name, I'd say the chances are fairly high. However, you never know with 24; he could be a consultant or just a regular dude.
Siddig has recently appeared in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, and played an emir's son in Syriana. He's actually kind of a striking screen presence. In Syriana, especially, Siddig was extremely good.
Siddig is just one of many additions to an already great cast, a group I wrote about a few days ago. As 24 gets more popular, their budget soars, and the more big names they can cast in minor roles. Those roles are actually quite desirable for those big names because, they only take a day or two to film, yet will be seen by millions. It's a win-win for everyone.
Jack Bauer's return on January 14th is only two weeks away.

Thanks for posting this article. I would have to agree that he has a striking screen presence. His role in KOH was very well done and in Syriana he was excellent. His portrayal of Nasir was very subtle but soulful. The picture that I have posted with my name is from a particularly well done scene. He is an excellent addition to 24 and to anything future that he does.
