By  |

Deadline announced today that Alexander Siddig has joined the cast of Words from the Oven, an independent film also starring Jonathan Banks, Dalia Rooney, and Erdem Ulker.

Written and directed by Josie Hull and produced by Frank Shiner, the film is based on the real-life experiences of Shiner’s Lebanese-American father, whose family immigrated to northeastern Pennsylvania in the 1940s.

The official synopsis reads: Words from the Oven follows a Lebanese immigrant family navigating economic hardship and personal tragedy in rural America during the mid-20th century, where food serves as a powerful expression of family, heritage, and resilience. The story centers on a young man forced to shoulder extraordinary responsibility after a devastating family loss. As he takes over the family farm, he must balance the weight of obligation with the challenge of discovering dreams of his own.

The movie is currently in production in Pennsylvania, on a farm neighboring the original Shiner farm. Siddig filmed his role earlier this month. His character has not yet been announced, but a little internet sleuthing and deductive reasoning should satisfy anyone’s curiosity.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
