Alexander Siddig has NOT signed on for more Star Trek

By  |

A rumor started spreading shortly before Christmas that Alexander Siddig signed on to voice Dr. Bashir in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks as well as reprise the character in the upcoming Section 31 series. As much as we would love for this to be true, unfortunately, it is not. According to Siddig, “I haven’t heard a thing about any Star Trek. So the answer is no.” (The redacted bit is just personal chat about the holiday.)

Alexander Siddig confirms that he is NOT returning to Star Trek at this time.

That’s not to say we’ll never see Bashir in the Star Trek universe again, just that it’s not happening now. Siddig has said repeatedly that he’d be willing to reprise his character if the story was good, and with Shantaram canceled after one season, his 2023 schedule did just open up. Maybe if we make a collective New Year’s wish, Bashir will return sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, you can see Siddig playing an older version of the character in our productions of fanfic scripts:

  • Alone Together: This four-episode series sees Bashir and Garak trying to unravel who’s behind a mysterious virus running rampant on Cardassia.
  • Little Achievements: Set 20 years after the end of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, “Little Achievements” takes a look at where Garak and Bashir are now and turns subtext into text.
  • Curse from the Prophets: The year is 2399. Bashir, fifty-five years old and living on Earth, is woken in the middle of the night by a surprise visit from his young Cardassian friend Giel who has believed every utopian story of the Federation the Doctor has told him.
  • The Whittler: Dr. Julian Bashir considers being an augment.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
