THE FIFTH ESTATE to Open Toronto International Film Festival

By  |

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is just around the corner and organizers have announced that The Fifth Estate will open the event this year.

The Fifth Estate tells the story of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his colleague Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Brühl) as they team up to become underground watchdogs of the privileged and powerful. Alexander Siddig co-stars in a role that’s being kept under wraps for now.

Stars Cumberbatch and Brühl as well as director Bill Condon are expected to walk the red carpet to open TIFF on September 5 (Sid is not expected) as the movie continues to generate award season buzz.

The Fifth Estate arrives in theaters October 18.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
