News Roundup: Deep State, Las Vegas, DS9 Documentary

By  |

Happy Spring, Sidsters! (Happy Autumn to our Southern Hemisphere friends.) Let’s take a look at the latest Alexander Siddig news to start the season off right.

Deep State

The second season of Deep State will premiere on EPIX on April 28 at 9/8c. Per EPIX, season 2 will delve deeper into the murky and political world of the deep state. Having failed in the Middle East (season 1), the powers that be are now turning their attention to sub-Saharan Africa and the scramble to plunder its natural resources. This is the first dirty war over clean energy. The series will also explore the origin stories of some of our favourite characters from season one alongside witnessing the fall of a hero and orchestrating the making of a terrorist in the eyes of the West.

Sid is excited about this project. He wrote about it in his Q&A with fans at the end of last year, saying: “I can easily say that my most challenging role so far was the one I just finished. It’s a part in the very excellent series Deep State and there are some scenes in which I have to speak three different languages, none of them my own.”

This preview focuses on new cast member Walter Goggins who seems to be the new lead for the season. I didn’t see Siddig although in a few scenes Goggins sure looks like him!

Returning cast members include Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones, Skins), Karima McAdams (Fearless, Vikings), Alistair Petrie(Sex Education, The Night Manager) and Anastasia Griffith (Damages, Once Upon a Time). Rounding out the ensemble are new cast members, Victoria Hamilton (The CrownDoctor Foster), Alexander Siddig (The Spy, GothamLily Banda (The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind) and Zainab Jah (Elementary, Homeland).

Viewers can catch up on the first season of Deep State before the season 2 premiere via EPIX NOW, the network’s new streaming service available for download in the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

Star Trek Las Vegas

Sid is confirmed to appear at Star Trek Las Vegas on Saturday, August 3. Details here.

What We Left Behind

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary What We Left Behind has been picked up by Shout! Studios which plans to release it “across multiple platforms including theatrical by year’s end.” Hopefully that means we’ll see it somewhere like Hulu or Prime in addition to on the big screen.

Mel started a fan site for Siddig in 1996, as a way to learn HTML and to promote his charitable endeavors. In 1998, he proposed that it become his official fan site; she quickly agreed and a long-distance friendship was born. You can reach Mel at mel[at]sidcity[dot]net.
